Lady Pippa Godfrey has suffered the most ruinous London Season. She escapes to her Somerset estate for a quiet Christmastide holiday with her family, away from society’s prying eyes. But before her parents can join her, a storm crashes down on Somerset to destroy any hope of Pippa’s white Christmas dream. The roads have flooded and travel is impossible, leaving her stranded and alone. But a muddied, angry and devilishly handsome lord appears at her door demanding shelter.

Lucas Hartfeld, the Earl of Maddox, has been summoned by his parents, the Marquis and Marchioness of Bowmont, to attend a holiday party in the wilds of the country, far from his London townhouse. He suspects they command his attendance for far different reasons than a simple country party. When a storm strands his carriage, he’s forced to seek shelter at the only home for miles around, a local manor called Helton House.

When Lady Pippa is reluctant to admit him, he does what he’s been raised to do—demand she provide him and his servants with shelter until the storm passes. But the beautiful woman draws his interest far more than he’s willing to admit. Can Lucas find a way out of the predicament his parents are planning?

As Lady Pippa scrutinizes another arrogant, demanding lord, she is bombarded with memories of betrayals in her past. Can she forget those difficult life lessons to claim a Christmastide kiss from a perfect stranger?

My thoughts:
This book follows Lady Pippa who was ruined in London society after her friend made comments about something happening with a man who was not her husband.  Lady Pippa went back to the country where she is more comfortable to ride out the destruction.  During a storm when her parents are out of town Lucas Hartfeld the Early of Maddox breaks down in his carriage and seeks refuge with Lady Pippa.

Lady Pippa is a very formal girl who happened to be friends with a wicked girl.  Lady Pippa has a large heart that easily peaks through her personality.  I loved that she was concerned about getting gifts out to the townspeople and anyone less fortunate then her during the storm as well as making sure the house was perfect for her parent’s arrival.

Lucas comes in with some interesting intentions, but soon after he finds himself trapped his mind begins changing.  I loved getting a look at Lucas’s life as well as his past.  He lost a brother a long time ago and it has affected his family and himself deeply.  I loved how he could openly talk about it.  I enjoyed that we got to get his POV and what he was willing to risk for love.

The author does a great job creating the personalities of both Lucas and Lady Pippa.  They both have very well-developed backstories that we get to look at.  They also have their own issues that they are fighting against while trying to figure out the future.
The romance between Lady Pippa and Lucas is cute.  The book is short, but we get a quick from unsure to love.  The two characters couldn’t be any more different, but they find something in each other that they can’t live without.

I love the ending of this book there are so many ups and downs and a great love story, but the ending is cute.  I love the change of heart that the characters experience and without giving too much away it comes to a great peak.

I guess my one complaint was that I felt there was unfinished business in the end for Lady Pippa.  I would have loved a little glimpse into what happens to her friend. The author does a great job leaving it open for a sequel.

I highly recommend the audio for this book.  The narrators where perfect for this book.  They both captured the spirit of the two main characters and it made it very easy to listen too.

I received a copy of this audiobook from Barclay publicity to provide an honest review.  This does not affect my opinion of this book.

Finding Audrey - Sophie Kinsella (Review)

23305614Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella
Genres: Young Adult Fiction, Romance, Contemporary
Publication date:
 June 9th 2015

Publisher: Penguin Random House Audio Publishing Group
Format: audiobook, 6 hours, 36 minutes
How I got it: My public library
Buy it: Amazon Barnes & Noble
My rating: 4/5

Audrey can't leave the house. she can't even take off her dark glasses inside the house.

Then her brother's friend Linus stumbles into her life. With his friendly, orange-slice smile and his funny notes, he starts to entice Audrey out again - well, Starbucks is a start. And with Linus at her side, Audrey feels like she can do the things she'd thought were too scary. Suddenly, finding her way back to the real world seems achievable.

..............................................................................

My thoughts:

This book follows Audrey who had a breakdown in the recent past due to an unfortunate event.  Audrey has been battling a sever anxiety disorder, which doesn’t allow her to do much or even take off her sunglasses when speaking to her family.

Audrey is a unique character in YA fiction.  The author does a great job developing Audrey into a teenager suffering from severe anxiety.  I also think it is important to keep in mind teenager when reading this book.  We are brought into the story more towards the middle of her anxiety disorder and she does seem to be making small strides with her therapist.  I love that we get to hear all about her interactions with her therapist as well as her family and what steps she is taking to recover.

Another major character in the book is Linus who is Audrey’s brothers friend.  I love that Linus tries hard to approach Audrey while also giving her space.  Linus might not fully understand what Audrey is going through in the beginning, but he becomes a pivotal part of her recovery.  I also loved the Linus never gave us and kept with Audrey, he was a strong character in this book and a swoon worthy book boyfriend.

I loved the side story in this book with Audrey’s mother and brother.  Audrey’s mom got into her mind that computer games where destroying her brother’s life and she tried everything to stop him from playing games.   I feel this added to the book, although a lighter issue it helped bring in a little comedy to a tough subject as well as show families might have multiple issues going on at one time.

This book is short in nature, but the author keeps the story moving along nicely.  I felt complete when I was done reading this book and felt the ending summed everything up.  I enjoyed that I got a glimpse into what it is like to suffer from anxiety as well as hope for a recovery.  I also loved the importance of having a strong supporting base that comes along with recovery and that this isn’t something that can easily be solved with just a pill.

I can’t think of one thing that I didn’t enjoy in this book, but the reason I am not giving it 5 stars is that I don’t think I would read it again.  It was a powerful book that touched a lot on living with an anxiety disorder, which you typically don’t see, but after finishing it I couldn’t imagine listening again.

I would suggest listening to the audio version of this book.  The narrator comes across perfectly for Audrey I found it was easy to listen to her narrate and imagine what was going on while listening to the book.  This is a quick listen so it would be perfect for a weekend.

Can’t buy me love…

Maddie’s not impulsive. She’s all about hard work and planning ahead. But one night, on a whim, she buys a lottery ticket. And then, to her astonishment—

She wins!

In a flash, Maddie’s life is unrecognizable. No more stressing about college scholarships. Suddenly, she’s talking about renting a yacht. And being in the spotlight at school is fun…until rumors start flying, and random people ask her for loans. Now Maddie isn’t sure who she can trust.

Except for Seth Nguyen, her funny, charming coworker at the local zoo. Seth doesn’t seem aware of Maddie’s big news. And, for some reason, she doesn’t want to tell him. But what will happen if he learns her secret?

..............................................................................

My thoughts:

I am back on a Kasie West fix.  I love a good cute romance that just takes your mind off the day!

This book follows Maddie who is a senior struggling with a few family issues that are stressing her out including a lack of monetary funds for college. Maddie one day wins the lottery after buying a ticket on her 18th birthday! Seth is the cute boy that she works with from the zoo.  We get to follow along on the journey from before the lottery to the happenings after one wins the lottery.

Seth is a great male lead for this book and seems mature for his age.  We get to learn a lot about Seth through Maddie’s eyes only so I got swoon worthy feelings while reading about him.   Seth can relieve some of the stress from Maddie by just being himself and asking little questions, which leads him to seem understanding.

I enjoyed Maddie as a main character.  The author did a great job digging into the family issues that where plaguing her.  Since the book is told through Maddie’s POV we get to see exactly how she wanted everything to be as well as what attempts she was going to make to fix the situations.  I loved how as the book developed we got to see Maddie attempt to tackle the family issues and her ability to have more difficult conversations.  My one Maddie issue would be that she is a little too trusting and you never want to see someone get taken advantage of in any sense.

Maddie also has two close friends when we start out the book.  The three of them are always studying together and enjoy hanging out.  I loved seeing a solid friendship in the book, there were a few ups and downs, but overall the friendship was well written and an enjoyable read.
My one complaint would be I wanted to see more out of the relationship between Maddie and her brother.   The book had a great deal of information regarding Maddie’s family and the relationships they have with one another.  I felt like I didn’t get a full resolve on the relationship with Maddie and her brother in the end.  I would have loved a little bit more on them, but I also love summed up endings!

I would suggest this as a perfect vacation read or long weekend read.  The book has a cute plot and ended up being a book I didn’t want to put down.  I enjoyed getting to know the characters while reading and wanted to see what was going to happen.

I won a copy of this book from How Useful It Is.  Thank you so much for hosting the giveaway!!

“Would you like to dance?” He gestured toward the wide spot of linoleum in front of the piano.

Dancing with Clint meant having his arms around me, feeling his breath on my cheek. I wanted to jump up and accept his offer. I looked around and no one else was dancing. He was standing there with his tattoos showing and his leather vest, a real tough guy—he couldn’t really want to dance with me in the middle of the senior community center.

I laughed. “You’re joking, right?”

“Uh, no. I wasn’t joking.” Clint shrugged and grabbed a newspaper off the rack next to me. He sat back down. “I just thought it might be fun, something different.”

Oh shit. He really did want to dance and I had totally blown it. He opened the paper to the sports page and then skipped to the local section. I’d hurt his feelings because I was afraid to take a chance. What could I say to make this better?

“I’ll dance with you, young man.” The woman in her seventies got up and held her hand out to Clint. “My name is Alma, and I know what to do when a handsome man asks you to dance. You say yes.”

Clint was caught. He looked from Alma and then back to me, unsure of what to say.

“All right.” He got to his feet. “Foxtrot?”

Review
This book contains adult themes.

This is the fifth book in the O’Malley’s Series by Katee Robert.   I loved the fourth book in this series so I went into this book very positive and I was not disappointed.  I think I enjoyed this book even more then the first one.  I also just requested the first two books from the series from my library! Let’s hope I can get them soon.  Also, I love the cover so I needed to read this one!

The O’Malley’s are part of the Irish mob in Boston, they are one of the largest families.  Aiden has since taken over the O’Malley family after his father took an early retirement.  Aiden is working very hard to keep his family safe even if it means stepping on a few toes.  Aiden drags in Charlie since she has a vendetta against the same man he is going after.  Aiden now needs to find out how much he cares about vendettas versus his family.

The author does a great job creating the two main characters for this book.  The book is basically told through the POV of the two main characters, but we do get a few other characters popping up who take over chapters, which is a nice break in the reading.

I couldn’t help, but just fall in love with Aiden when I was reading.  I love how he could open up and really reflect upon what was going on in his life.  Aiden grew over the course of the entire book and became a more respectful guy.  I enjoyed getting to hear the innerworkings of Aiden’s brain as he was thinking through what was going on.

Charlie was such a great main character to be opposite Aiden.  Charlie comes with her own baggage and own issues, but she can see things from a different perspective, which is exactly what the family needs.  Charlie’s fresh set of eyes and her previous experience make her rough around the edges and not easily intimidated.   Charlie can stand her ground during the book and work on deciding what she wants out of her future.    I love that the author created a mixed background for Charlie because when we got to hear her internal thoughts it gave me a lot to think about while reading.

I loved all the drama that was created during this book.  We get a few major events happening during the book, which really push the action along, but you can also feel something big coming while you are reading.  The author does an outstanding job building up the drama and leaving you little clues that something is going to happen.  I love the ability for the book to keep going up to the climax without it having to be dragged out.
Also, the climax is exactly what I wanted it was the perfect revelation of everything the book was working up too.

I would suggest this as a weekend read.  I got sucked into the O’Malley world and wanted to know what was going to happen with Aiden and Charlie.   I ended up not being able to put the book down!  This book can be read as a standalone book, but I recommend reading other books in the series.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley to provide an honest review.  This does not affect my review of this book.

Undercover Attraction Excerpt

His brows slanted down, and then his expression cleared. “You’re worried about me? Bright eyes, you don’t have to be.”
Either he was lying to make her feel better or he’d missed the cold calculation in Alethea’s eyes when she’d watched them walk out. If he didn’t dance to the tune she set, she would have no problem killing him. She wouldn’t lose a wink of sleep at night over it.
Charlie gripped his hand tighter. “Promise me.”
“You know I can’t. I’ll do whatever it takes to see this through, and if that means getting into another situation like the one we just left, I won’t hesitate.”
She wanted to shake the stubbornness right out of him. “Even if it means you don’t walk out alive?”
He started to give her a pat answer. She saw the second he registered that she was actually scared for him—not herself. The mask slipped, and something like wonder dawned. Aiden pulled her into his lap and framed her face with his hands. “The end justifies the means. You know that.”
She’d thought the same thing earlier. Now she wasn’t so sure.
But he wasn’t going to listen to her tonight. Either he hadn’t seen the danger or he was determined to downplay it. If she kept pressing, it might mean a fight, and that was the last thing Charlie wanted. She’d never been more aware of time flowing, a river that she couldn’t fight. Aiden wasn’t hers. She couldn’t protect him. She didn’t even have a real right to demand he take more precautions. She was just a woman whose aims had lined up with his.
“Charlie—”
She kissed him. There wasn’t anything left to say that they couldn’t communicate with their bodies. She shifted to straddle him, the move making her dress ride up to indecent heights. All Aiden’s careful control was gone in an instant, replaced by a frenzy that matched her own. He slid his hands up her thighs to her hips, pushing the dress even higher, and grabbed her ass, grinding her against him.
All her fear and anger turned to desire, creating an inferno bound to incinerate them both. She could care less. Charlie reached between them and undid his slacks to pull out his cock. She palmed him. “Condom?”
He opened his mouth and then considered. “Fuck, I don’t have any.”
Damn. Disappointment soured in her stomach, but she shoved it away. “Then I guess we’ll have to get creative. I need you inside me. I don’t care how.” She pushed away his hands and slid down the seat to kneel between his thighs.
Or she tried to.
He caught her halfway through the move and shook his head. “No, bright eyes.”
“What?” Surely he wasn’t rejecting a blow job? That had to break some kind of international law. It just wasn’t done. “You’re starting to give me a complex.”
Aiden lifted her back to his lap, this time facing away from him. The passing lights showed her reflection in the glass separating them from the front seat. Her blue eyes were wild, her hair tangled from his fingers, her dress in danger of slipping off her breasts. Behind her, Aiden was barely a shadow. He moved her hair to one side and kissed her neck. “You come first, bright eyes. Second, too, if I have any say in it.”
She licked her lips. “One of these days, I’m going to tie you down and give you all the blow jobs I’ve been craving.”
“One of these days…” He bracketed her throat with one hand, keeping her head tilted to the side, and coasted the other hand up her inner thigh, spreading her legs further. “One of these days, I’ll let you.”
She nodded. “Good answer.” The move increased the pressure of his hand against her neck, and she squirmed, turned on far more than she should be.
His wandering hand reached the junction between her thighs, and he parted her, idly stroking. “I think I like that you’re worried about me.” His finger circled her clit and away. “I like it a lot.”
“Mmm.” What was she supposed to say to that? She’d already had to face the fact that she didn’t have the right words because she didn’t have the right.
His finger pushed into her slowly. “I won’t be without a condom again, bright eyes. Feeling you so hot and wet around my finger makes me crave the same around my cock.” He pumped as idly as he’d touched her to begin with. “A woman like you could make a man forget himself.”
It was hard to think, with his hard body behind her, his erection pressing against her ass, and his hand moving between her legs. She tried despite that. “Only for a while.”
“No, bright eyes. Not just for a while.” He dragged his mouth down the line of her shoulder. “When I’m inside you, all I can think of is you. When I’m near you, all I can think of is getting inside you again. If you gave me half a chance, I’d be buried to the hilt right now, condom be damned. That’s crazy.
She rocked against his hand, letting her head fall back to rest on his shoulder. He let go of her throat. The only warning she got was his thumb brushing her sternum and then he pushed down her dress, baring her breasts completely. Aiden cursed. “Next time you forget such a vital part of your wardrobe, the moment I find out, I’m going to fuck you. I might give you the option of dragging you to the nearest bathroom…if you’re lucky.”

Praise for UNDERCOVER ATTRACTION

“Robert (Forbidden Promises) combines strong chemistry, snappy plotting, and imperfect yet appealing characters in her fifth O’Malley contemporary.”—Publishers Weekly on UNDERCOVER ATTRACTION

“Imagine the erotic sensibility of Red Shoe Diaries expertly fused with the ruthless power struggles that fueled The Sopranos and you have some idea of the flavor of Robert’s RITA–nominated O’Malleys series. In the fifth installment, she doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to the searing sensuality of the love scenes or the brutal danger propelling the plot, thus delivering exactly the kind of intense love story her readers crave.”—Booklist on UNDERCOVER ATTRACTION
